This is a great product. I have a dog in chronic kidney failure, and the vet has suggested he increase his water intake. This has made life SO much easier! No longer will he pass the bowl because the water isn't fresh enough. Before, I was changing his water bowl at LEAST four times daily to encourage him to drink. Now, he will drink whenever he gets the urge. It may just prolong his life!
I have three beagles (all are medium sized dogs, about 20 or so pounds each) and a Labrador (about 70 pounds) and this tank needs refilling just ONCE daily for me. My filters last me about a month, I will rinse and reuse them as much as I can.
The pump is SILENT, and you will hear a gentle trickle. You can barely notice it, I only hear it when my house is totally silent. But COME ON, it is a FOUNTAIN for gosh sakes. I didn't expect silence from running water. That is an impossible feat. And, the dogs LIKE to drink from the water like they like to drink from a hose. They prefer the "stream" over the bowl.
AND, like the other reviewer, this is a great product at a GREAT price (52 dollars!) so I will probably be placing an order for another one. :) LOVE IT!

Written by veteran dog trainer JoAnn Dahan, Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes is a guide written to teach young children puppy training basics. Housebreaking, sitting or lying down on command, coming when called, and learning to stay or heel when told are all covered. The very simple instructions and color photographs make Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes quite easy to understand, and the accompanying DVD makes step-by-step instruction crystal clear. Enthusiastically recommended especially for young dog owners. "House Breaking: When you wake up, take your puppy outside. Once outside say, 'Hurry, Sam, hurry.' This will help your puppy go potty. When your puppy goes potty say, 'Good Sam.' (Remember to use your puppy's name.) A puppy will have to go potty shortly after you feed him."

"Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes" is simple to read. All the words are appropriate for those beginning to read. On most pages, the message is simple and concise. There is a list of tips that are in bullet point form.

There are two different puppies shown throughout the book. A little boy and a girl are shown demonstrating the training tips.

Repetition is used throughout "Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes." J.T. asked at one time if he was reading the same page over, because the concepts are the same in many cases. Throughout the book, it is stressed that the children/trainers must develop a relationship with their puppies.

J.T.: "This book is good. I liked it. My friends would like it, too. I do not have a puppy. I have a dog. I am going to train my dog with this book."

This book can be used with preschoolers, also. The pictures are attention-grabbing. The concept is simple. There is a lot of repetition.

I wish there were more children involved in the photographs. There are only two children in the book. To show some diversity would allow all children to relate more to the trainers/children.

JoAnn Dahan and photographer, Walter George, created a wonderful book. "Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes" is not only effective in teaching children; it is also enjoyable to read. This book will teach your child the responsibility they have when they have a puppy. It also will help your child create a bond with their pet.

We've had this thing about a week now. It's definitely got our older dog drinking more water, which is why we got it.

It's not quite as great as I hoped, though. For one thing, I don't see why they didn't make the reservoir larger. We still have to fill the thing up once a day or so (though we'd have to do this at least as often with our old water bowl). They could have easily doubled the size of the water reservoir without making it awkwardly large.

For another thing, the water tastes good to our dogs, but it looks kind of unappealing. I somehow hoped that since the water was pumped through a filter continuously, it would be crystal clear. It's free of hair, but it has an enormous floating island of drool on it. The problem is that the water intake for the recirculation is on the bottom of the basin, but since drool floats on the surface, it just builds up until you skim it off or clean the thing out. I'm sure they could have designed it so that some of the water intake came from the water surface. But like I said, the dogs don't mind. The water is much less gross than our water bowl would get (besides the floating drool island).

The third thing about it that could be better is that it's not super quiet, even on the slowest setting. It's not that bad though; we have it in the kitchen, and we never turn the thing off. It's a bit of white noise that doesn't interfere with watching TV in the living room or anything. But if you're concerned about noise, you should be aware it'll make some.

Despite these quibbles, I still give it 4 stars. It gets our dog drinking more water, which is good for him.

One last thing -- the instruction manual makes a big deal of cleaning out its various parts weekly. I think buying the brush kit (and some extra filters) to go with it is a good idea, instead of having to go back and have a second set of things shipped to you the next week (if you don't have a pet store local that sells the extras for this thing).

I was immediately impressed with how easy and clearly illustrative the book is. My youngest child was able to read the book herself. She found the pictures of the puppies and children aspects of the book she could relate to personally.

It's clear that JoAnn Dahan has a real handle on how to instruct children, training puppies, and making it easy for parents!

My name is Christi, I am 7 years old. I just got a new lab puppy from my Mom and Dad her name is Ginny. Before I could have Ginny I had to promised I would care for her and train her. This book is so great,it is very easy to read and the pictures of the lab puppies and kids are so cute. I taught Ginny to sit and lie down really fast. I think every kid with a puppy should have this book.

We have 3 Scottish Terriers and they LOVE this thing! Scotties love fresh, running water to drink, but don't like getting water in their face. With this fountain, they get the fresh, filtered water they like, without having to worry about it getting in their face. The filter also helps clean out the debris they bring in on their beards! The large reservoir means I am not constantly refilling their water dish. I would highly recommend this product.

Trainer, behaviorist, and animal therapist Linda Tellington-Jones presents accumulated wisdom from 40 years of working with animals in Getting in TTouch with Your Puppy: A Gentle Approach to Training and Influencing Behavior. Color photographs on virtually every page illustrate the step-by-step instructions to basic care, feeding, and grooming, as well as house-training, good behavior on a leash, riding in cars, and much more. The "Tellington Touch Method" used to train puppies is a "no-force" means to influence behavior of dogs through gentle physical contact. An excellent and easy-to-use guide, recommended for anyone considering a new puppy for a pet.

I've been very pleased with this fountain. I placed it beside my "Catit" cat fountain, which needs refilling less often now-- I'm assuming because my big dog prefers the Big Dog fountain. My cats also like it, sometimes to drink from, sometimes just to watch. I like that it holds a lot of water. It's a bit noisy, I hear the water running all the time, that might bother some.

I have a Boston Terrier puppy - lovable but with high energy - and have on hand at least five books on how to raise and train a puppy. This touch technique is very helpful to get Sadie relaxed. And the bonding is an extra special bonus. I would suggest using this book and technique for anyone training a puppy.
